A veteran
player who not only has the knowledge and the experience
to defeat her opponents with half the effort they put into
the game, she also has the drive and the power to make them
sorry they ever began playing Ultimate. She tears through
the fields with her crisp cuts and controls the disc as
though she were operating with an invisible magical wand.
She
is like Hermione from Harry Potter using her wand to play
with the members of the House of Slitherin and to make them
look like a ridiculous bunch, except with a disc instead
of a wand. Her last name is Ross, and her first name is,
to us, Sherri Ross. We call her by her first name.
Even
though this tough brute plays a mean game of Ultimate, she
actually resembles a delicate pink flower soaking up the
sun and dancing in the spring breeze- She is not called
Foxy for nothing. Sherri Ross always communicates with a
soft motherly voice whether she’s at home with her
little baby daughter Nicola or on the field with her team-mates
during an intense game. Well, it sure is better than having
a loud scary voice both on the field and at home.
Sherri
even sets a good example to all competitive athletes with
her extreme devotion to her sport. A few years ago, Sherri
was hiking in B.C. on the weekend of the No Borders tournament
in Ottawa. She felt badly for missing the first day of the
tournament on Saturday therefore she took a flight that
got her to Ottawa for 5am on Sunday in order to participate
in No Borders. Altogether, she has two nicknames- “Foxy”
and “5am”. They don’t go together but
they can.
She
can be called “Foxy at 5am” and it would make
sense. She also showed dedication to her team last year
when she gave birth to Nicola in March and was at the Ultimate
tryouts at the end of April.
In
conclusion, nothing will get in the way of Sherri. Not opponents,
not life circumstances, not events, not the weather, and
surely not the time of day. Foxy’s gonna do her thang!
