She may not be on top of pop culture and she might not be
the biggest threat in a friendly word game... but this co-captain
can break your mark all the way to Turku and back. One of
the friendliest faces in Ottawa’s frisbee community,
she is quick to guffaw (often at herself) and the first to
greet you with a high-five.
Also known as Babyhead — which slightly resembles
Barbara, huh? — Ali Lemay spends her days in a Chemistry
lab at the University of Ottawa, for the most part keeping
her experiments under control. Off the field and outside
the lab, Ali spends her time walking puppy Mogul, lifting
ridiculous amounts of weight, eating too many dried apricots,
playing the odd game of squash (what a great backhand dig!),
and doing the splits on the dance floor. On the field, she
moves the disk faster than you can utter the word “up!”
She’d be the last to let you know that she was instrumental
in helping the Canadian Women’s team bring home the
gold at last year’s Worlds competition.
So what if she sometimes forgets to lock the door to the
public washroom? Or if she doesn’t know the first
thing about Eminem? Or if she sometimes forgets her gym
clothes? Or if she used to eat icing by the bucket? Or if
she excitedly posts invitations to stem cell research seminars
on frisbee forum sites? Someday soon, we’ll all be
calling her DOCTOR Babyhead, and reminiscing about how lucky
we were to have had Ali at the helm of the team.
