Origin Story
All great super heros have an origin story. This is Stella’s as told by Justine Price (June 10, 2010).
“I get to claim this one. I really wanted the team name to be Stella the year before it happened, but it was turned down. The next year my kind team mates let me have my way and we became Stella, circa ’96, not sure. The same year, Joanna McNutt (now Quarry) said she’d play the full summer instead of tree planting as long as we wore orange shirts. This is back when NO ONE wore orange but hey, we’d do whatever to have Nutter playing. So that was it, Stella in the orange. The orange lasted a long time and the name stands. I liked it due to the old Streetcar Named Desire call out, “Stellaaaa….” and also the double entendre on a great play being a “stellar” play, slight liberty on the spelling. Oh yeah, Julie Norton did get us some free Stella Artois “practise shirts” a couple of years later, nice.”
