Hey ultimate players!
Looking to get some more out of your summer with ultimate frisbee? Stella A and B tryouts are coming up fast, and we encourage everyone to come out. Tryouts are completely open to anybody who is looking to play ultimate at a competitive level, or those who are looking to learn more about the sport, or to improve their current level of play. This summer promises to be an exciting season for Stella, and you don’t want to miss out on this opportunity! After all, you have nothing to lose, so we’ll see you there!

2013 Where’s My Hat Tournament?

**Note there will be two divisions offered this year: Women’s 6V6 and Men’s 5V5**

A hat tournament for players of all shapes, sizes and fashion senses is coming to town! Here’s your chance to play with players of all levels from around the city. It’s a first come, first serve learning opportunity, a way to expand your game and have tons of fun. Learn new skills or refine the ones you have to blow away your league teammates this spring/summer! Bring your families to the sidelines to cheer you on during the day!

Each team will be led by a few members of the Ottawa touring teams that will bring a wealth of knowledge and loads of enthusiasm!

When: 11:00-5:00 pm, Saturday March 9th, 2013 Where: Superdome (1662 Bearbrook Rd) Cost: $45

Thanks to your generous support at last year’s tournament the Women’s Team Canada traveled to Japan in July and earned the bronze medal and Spirit of the Game award! A portion of this year’s tournament fees will go towards helping the Ottawa contingent of Team Canada on the road to the World Games in Cali, Colombia this July!

Announcing Ugly Betty & Foxy Ox 2013!

Looking for a place to fine-tune your ultimate skills during the dead of the winter? How about fine tuning those skills and developing your knowledge of the game with Ottawa’s top women’s talent?

Since 2007, the Ugly Betty league has been the premiere location to play competitive women’s indoor ultimate. The Foxy Ox stream was introduced in 2008 to offer sessions covering similar themes as Ugly Betty on a more introductory basis.

New this season: Session topics will be based on the needs of the participants using the Ultimate Long-Term Athlete Development Skills matrix as our guide!

The details:

Cost – $80 per stream ($160 for both streams)

Location - Gloucester Superdome (www.superdome.ca), 1662 Bearbrook Road

When – Saturdays from 6-7:30 p.m.

Ugly Betty: Jan 12 & 26, Feb 9 & 23, Mar 16 & 30

Foxy Ox: Jan 5 & 19, Feb 2 & 16, Mar 2 & 23

How to apply:

1. Complete the application form by November 23, 2012 to be considered. We will be in touch regarding payment for the league once all applications have been received.

2. Attend tryouts on Saturday December 1, 2012 (4-5 p.m. at the Gloucester Superdome; tryout fee $10). Note that not all applicants will be required to tryout. Tryouts are held to ensure that we are familiar with all applicants and can ensure that all participants are at the appropriate skill level.

Women’s Coached League 2013

Calling all Ladies! The competitive women’s program would like to invite you to play in the Winter Women’s Indoor Coached League. This league is for women of all skill levels. We’ve put together a fun program for 2013 that combines skills sessions with scrimmages. This winter, join us to hone your basic frisbee skills, plus learn about a variety of fun and exciting strategies and skills.

These are all things you may not learn from your summer captains! We’ll also review a variety of offences and defences that can be used both indoor and outdoor. And, based on feedback from our successful 2011 program, we’ll be providing some innovative take home materials to players.

If you would like to play in a women’s league and be coached by our competitive women’s program, then this is the league for you! Register now because spaces are limited.

Where: Louis Riel Dome

When: Jan 13 to March 24, 2013 10 dates. (No games on February 24th, 2013)

Game slots: 8pm to 10pm.

Game length: 120 minutes

For the second year in a row Stella participated in the USAU Championship series. She was second out of her Section and fourth out of her Region! She didn’t secure a bid to Nationals, but watch for her next fall. Third time’s a charm!
